Christmas is a Time of Togetherness

Christmas is a Time of Togetherness

Last year I wrote my Christmas Message to anyone out there who is lonely. This year I’m going to write about community. In 2020 we will finally be able to create our solution for loneliness among adults – and our biggest focus will be on building a community.

This year, as last year, I’ll be celebrating Christmas with my closest family, and I’m looking forward to this more than ever before. This year I know that achieving my dream, my greatest passion, is just around the corner. I am thrilled to finally be able to lower the threshold for us all to participate in a community, in fellowship, in the lives we want to live, together.

Everybody needs some time alone, and most people appreciate space for reflection and contemplation from time-to-time. But time alone is something that we should choose – few people want to live a life where time in isolation feels like the only option. We all need time to ourselves, but never all of our time…

I read an incredible article recently, written by Gudrun Rygg in Bergensavisen (The Bergen News). In it, she wrote about herself, her friends, and their experiences of getting older in Norway. About how our living situations isolate us from others, and why providing services (and access to those services) are among the most important things we can do to improve peoples’ lives.

Just as we are not meant to be alone all of the time, we are not supposed to be social all of the time – that too is something that few of us need, that few of us want, and that even fewer of us could actually accomplish! But the opportunity to greet and chat with friends, acquaintances, or entirely new faces doesn’t just bring us closer together, it keeps us healthier in both body and soul. Finding yourself in a place that creates chances for you to connect with your community is life-extending and life-affirming for us all.

Desert Springs in Almeria, the place we have chosen to build the first Ambera Community, will not just be a place with Sun, Sea and Sights. It will be a place of calm, of quiet happiness, of possibilities and of companionship. Beautiful walking routes, exciting cultural offerings, a fitness centre, restaurants, tennis courts, and tranquil beaches make this place uniquely suited to helping people build and deepen friendships – whatever your interests may be. Here we will be able to live. Here we can all fulfil our dreams.

We are all different, and have different needs, but the need for relationships and friendships is universal.

I wish all of you a very Merry Christmas, and I hope that the new year brings with it smiles, laughter, warmth, and all the possibilities you could ever wish for.

Best wishes,

Jan Olav
