Why Almería Might Be the Perfect Place to Live

Why Almería Might Be the Perfect Place to Live

Madrid, Barcelona, Malaga and Valencia are all large and beautiful cities well worth visiting, but one could easily argue that the city of Almería is the ideal place to settle down. Here’s why:

The food

Freshly caught wild seafood and locally-produced wines and vegetables are just some of the reasons why Almería was named Gastronomic Capital of Spain 2019. Often referred to as “the orchard of Europe”, the farms in Almeria cultivate some of the finest produce on the continent. Thanks to the superb climate there’s a long growing season, and the tomatoes, cucumbers and watermelons grown here are the most flavourful in Europe.

The beaches

Almeria is renowned throughout Spain for its beautiful, nearly untouched beaches. The most spectacular ones are located in the Cabo de Gata-Nijarn nature reserve just outside the city, while Zapillo offers the most urban beach life experience.

The climate

Residents of Almeria claim to enjoy the best climate on Earth, with 330 sunny days a year. While ‘best’ is a matter of preference, the fact remains that the weather tends towards brilliant sunshine during the day, and breath-taking starry skies at night.

The adventures

In Almeria, there’s always something new to explore. From exhilarating kayaking and horseback riding in the Cabo de Gata-Nijar nature reserve, to relaxing Hammam baths and world class golfing right outside the city. Want to ski in the morning and sunbathe in the afternoon? Europe’s southernmost ski resort, Sierra Nevada, is located just a 1,5 hour away.

The history and culture

Almería’s cultural identity and history is clearly visible in the Moorish architecture of its whitewashed Andalusian towns and is characterised by its magnificent fiestas. Historical remnants point to Almeria’s broad, rich cultural heritage contributing to a great wealth of customs and traditions.

Ambera has chosen the Almería region as the location for our first community because of its unique desert climate, stunning scenery, excellent food and endless options for things to see and do. Read more about our first community and the amazing Almería region here.
