It’s never too late to start something new

Working on the Ambera concept, we constantly have the opportunity to reflect on what gives us a good Quality of Life. For my part, one of the most rewarding things I’ve done in recent years is learning to play Tennis.

I’m 45, and I know I’m never going to be a champion, but after 2 years of training I can play a decent game and have a good time. I’ve also made new friends who are in the same boat as me, as far as tennis is concerned, and that’s just as valuable as the effect it’s had on my health.

Some years ago, researchers in Sweden published a 35-year study in which they compared the effects of exercise on people who were already extremely fit, and normal humans like me and (possibly) you. This study followed a group of 2000 people, starting at around age 50, and tracked them for those 35 years.

The results are extremely encouraging – even if you have not had a long history of exercise, the health benefits you will gain from exercising are the same as for someone who does has.

Ambera is all about creating the circumstances necessary to live a great life. Tennis matches and activity groups are great examples of things in our concept that can help turn neighbours into friends.

There’s no easier way to get to know someone than finding out you’re equally skilled (or otherwise) at hitting a ball across a net. At least, that’s my experience.

Maybe I’ll see you on the tennis court in a couple of years?
